Myth: OS1st is just a recovery brand.
Fact: It's a performance brand that happens to know feet better than most. The recovery rep is the resume, not the job.
We hear this one a lot, and we understand where it comes from. OS1st built its reputation in compression and bracing — products people reached for when something hurt. That's a real history and we're not running from it.
But there's a difference between where you started and what you are.
Here's what that history actually gave us. Building products for feet in trouble means studying feet in detail: how they load under impact, how they swell over the course of a day or a long run, where the tissue fails first and why. The human foot has 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Designing for a structure that complex — with real consequences if you get it wrong — is a different discipline than designing apparel.
Most sock brands start from fabric and fashion. We started from anatomy.
So when we build a running sock, we're not guessing where support should go. We already know which zones take the most shear, where swelling changes fit over distance, and which areas need structure versus which need to be left alone. That knowledge came from the recovery side. It doesn't stay there.
Founded in Hickory, North Carolina on decades of hosiery expertise and biomechanical insight, OS1st has always been about supporting the body's natural mechanics — whether that means helping a foot recover or carrying one through a marathon.
The recovery rep is the resume. Performance is the job.
